DBase

dBASE is a database management system developed by Ashton-Tate.

It became an industry standard in the early to mid 80s and the basis of the xBase language, but declined rapidly in the 90s when it could not keep up with the competition. In 1991 Ashton-Tate was sold to Borland International.

License and availability

  • Commercial - OS/2 version discontinued - DOS version still sold and supported under the name dBase Classic - MS Windows version still developed.
