dBase (or dBASE) is a database management system developed by Ashton-Tate.
History
A CP/M database system introduced in 1980 as dBASE II and was quickly ported to most common 8-bit platforms. It was ported to DOS in 1982 and later to OS/2 and MS Windows and became an industry standard in the early to mid 80's and the basis of the xBase language, but declined rapidly in the 90's when could not keep up with the competition.
