BISS GmbH

German software development company based in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony but originally founded in Wilhelmshaven in the same state. The company initially specialised in developing tools for the insurance industry and as that business sector was heavily invested in OS/2 the company focused on creating OS/2 C++ libraries, classes and programming tools that primarily targeted that market sector and became best known for a huge C++ application framework called BSA.
When IBM announced they were closing down the OS/2 division the company attempted to port their products to Java and did in the end deliver a smaller cross platform Java UI library that could aid in porting applications written in the earlier BSA to other systems, but development on that system halted as the two main developers of the system left BISS for Transvirtual Technologies, and BISS decided to refocus as a custom programming and IT service operation and exited the development tools business altogether.
