Ryan-McFarland Corporation was founded in 1970 by Don Ryan and David McFarland.
The COBOL-74 compiler was licensed to:
- NCR IMOS COBOL (1975)
- Texas Instruments (1976)
- Zilog (1977)
- Tandy Corp./Radio Shack RSCOBOL (1978) - TRS-80 Model I, Model III
- Onyx Systems, Inc. (1979)
RM/COBOL was released in 1979.
In 1987 the company was acquired by Austec. In 1989 it became a division of Liant Software Corporation.
