IBM z/VM

IBM z/VM is an interactive, multiple-access operating system.

The hypervisor can run hundreds to thousands of Linux servers on a single mainframe, together with classic operating systems, such as z/OS and z/VSE.

Components

Control Program (CP): hypervisor and real-machine resource manager
Conversational Monitor System (CMS): application and interactive user environment and file systems
Dump Viewing Facility: analyzes and manages system software problems
APPC/VM VTAM Support (AVS): connectivity in an IBM SNA network
Group Control System (GCS): virtual machine supervisor that provides multitasking services and supports a native SNA network
Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD) and Hardware Configuration Manager (HCM) for z/VM: I/O configuration management environment
Language Environment for z/VM: runtime environment for application programs written in C/C++, COBOL, or PL/I
REXX/VM: REXX programming language interpreter
TCP/IP for z/VM: support for the TCP/IP networking environment
Transparent Services Access Facility (TSAF): communication services
