PC DOS
Appearance

IBM PC DOS (Personal Computer Disk Operating System) was announced in 1981 as an operating system for IBM's Personal Computer (5150). With introduction of Personal System/2 family it was renamed to IBM DOS in April 1987. Until version 7.0 released in 1995 brought back the traditional old name.

While it was not released as a seperate product it should be noted that those that ordered OEM IBM PC DOS installed on computers from vendors such as IBM itself, Lenovo and Dell, got shipped a DOS that contained the userland applications from PC DOS 2000 but a newer kernel that declared itself to be DOS 7.1. The last known kernel build for the OEM product is 2003.
