Mircosoft BASIC was a BASIC interpreter (and dialect).

Interpreters for CP/M operating systems are also called MBASIC. The compiler was named BASCOM.

BASCOM

This BASIC compiler was developed in 1981 for CP/M. IBM shipped a OEM version for the IBM PC. Similar to CBASIC a BASIC runtime system (BRUN or BASRUN) was required to execute the compiled programs.
