Guide to Migrating Applications to OS/2

The purpose of this guide is to help solution developers migrate their applications to OS/2 and, later on, to other IBM platforms.

Note

If you migrate to an IBM platform from a non-IBM platform, ensure that you abide by all applicable license agreements that you may have with other vendors.

The main focus of this guide is on migrating Windows applications to 32-bit OS/2. Other platforms will be added over time.

Although this guide is not a design document and doesn't cover basic application design and architecture, it contains high-level information on some of the OS/2-exploitive features that can produce an application that's strong in both functionality and usability. The tools and technologies used in migrating OS/2 applications are explained, and the education, support, and services available to developers are included.

Even though migrating an application is a complex task, plenty of people are doing it. This guide can help.

Note

To migrate an application, you'll probably want to get the SMART - Source Migration Analysis and Reporting Toolset from the IBM Developer Connection (DevCon) for OS/2. For information on how to get DevCon, see IBM Developer Connection for OS/2.
