A word processing program from [[Microsoft]] that is actually two completely different codebases. The first one was a text mode version designed by Charles Simonyi and Richard Brodie and was developed on Microsoft's in house [[UCSD Pascal]] derived system and shipped for [[DOS]] and [[XENIX]] with versions appearing a little later for most personal computers available at the time. In 1989 a new version with a graphical user interface and coded from the ground up in [[C]] was introduced for [[Microsoft Windows]] and followed the year after by a version for [[OS/2]].
