Company founded in Freemount, California in 1984 to commercialise a Prolog development system that they shipped in 1985 as simply Quintus Prolog. As it was the first Prolog system to feature support for traditional business and IT computing it quickly became a de-facto standard in the industry. The company branched into the world of application software in 1991 with a product called CustomerQ that was a call centre management software that ran as a back end based on Quintus Prolog on Unix servers and front ends running on MS Windows or OS/2.

While the Prolog market contracted a bit in the early 90s, the sales of their call centre software exploded in 1994 and 5 and the company gradually lost interest in the Prolog development business, eventually selling it to UK company AI International in 1996. The company was taken over by Avaya in 2001 and the CustomerQ product line integrated into the Avaya product line.
