LAN Manager (LANMAN, LM) is a Network Operating System for OS/2 Version 1.x from Microsoft.

History

The LAN Manager product was developed 3Com and Microsoft, so it was known initially as 3Com/Microsoft LAN Manager. It was based on earlier LAN technologies from Microsoft's MS-NET and XENIX-NET products.

LAN Manager was also an OEM product that was licensed to third parties. LAN Manager/X for Hewlett Packard's HP-UX was the first product for UNIX-based systems.

Features

LAN Manager provides support for DOS 3 or OS/2 systems with network adapters and protocol stacks. It's possible to configure and bind multiple drivers into a set of layered protocol stacks.

The Protocol Manager handles:

  • MAC drivers
  • Protocol drivers (NetBIOS, ...)
